چکیده

INTRODUCTION The hip joint is a weight-bearing joint which allows a wide range of motion yet remains stable due to its ball and socket anatomy. Recognising this, the hip joint may encounter mechanical disorders or so-called ‘impingement syndromes’. Awareness of different patterns of hip joint impingement is crucial as these conditions may predispose to hip joint osteoarthritis1 and may be the source of hip pain in a young individual2.

Hip impingement: beyond femoroacetabular.

In the last 20 years, femoroacetabular impingement has been at the forefront of clinical practice as a cause of hip pain in young adults. As arthroscopic techniques for the hip continue to evolve, the possible presence of a new group of conditions creating mechanical conflict in and around the hip joint (ischiofemoral, subspine and iliopsoas impingement) has recently been elucidated whilst inte...

MRI of lower extremity impingement and friction syndromes in children.

Although generally more common in adults, lower extremity impingement and friction syndromes are also observed in the pediatric age group. Encompassing femoroacetabular impingement, iliopsoas impingement, subspine impingement, and ischiofemoral impingement around the hip; patellar tendon-lateral femoral condyle friction syndrome; iliotibial band friction syndrome; and medial synovial plica synd...

A retrospective analysis on the correlation between hip pain, physical examination findings, and alpha angle on MR images

BACKGROUND We aimed to search whether alpha angle, a radiological clue used in the diagnosis of femoroacetabular impingement, is correlated with the presence of hip pain, internal rotation angle, and impingement test results on hip impingement patients (CAM type). METHODS Medical records of 334 patients (156 women, 178 men) with an average age of 33.8 ± 8.4 (range 20-50) years were retrospect...

Relationship between cup position and obturator externus muscle in total hip arthroplasty

BACKGROUND It is often challenging to find the causes for postoperative pain syndromes after total hip replacement, since they can be very allotropic. One possible cause is the muscular impingement syndrome. The most commonly known impingement syndrome is the psoas impingement. Another recently described impingement syndrome is the obturator externus muscle impingement. The aim of this study is...

Hip arthroscopy: an emerging technique and indications.

Hip arthroscopy is one of the most rapidly evolving arthroscopy techniques. It combines the benefits of a minimally invasive procedure and a short rehabilitation period. Improved instrumentation and technical skills have advanced our ability to accurately diagnose and treat various conditions. The role of this procedure continues to evolve with new indications that might change the outcome of d...
